Dr. Carlos Montoya Jr. attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical School. After graduating medical school he was accepted to UCLA/West Los Angeles VA Medical Center for his internship year. Following his internship he completed his training in ophthalmology at Nassau County Medical Center/Stony Brook University Hospital in the state of New York. Since then he has fulfilled his life-long dream of joining his father at St. Lucia Eye Center. Dr. Montoya remembers following his father down the halls of medical institutions in El Salvador and wishing for the day that he would become a doctor to practice with his father. Today, Dr. Montoya Jr. is fulfilling that life-long dream.
In addition to providing his time to his patients at St. Lucia Eye Center, Dr. Montoya Jr. also gives back to the profession that has given him so much joy and fulfillment. He enjoys his time as a volunteer attending physician at USC Doheny Eye Institute where he teaches residents the art of cataract surgery. Dr. Kourouyan earned his undergraduate degree Summa Cum Laude from California State University, Northridge, where, as top student in the school, he was named the Leo Wolfson Scholar. Throughout her residency training, Dr. Garrana continued to do scientific research to understand the clinical effects of LASIK and PRK on the cornea and vision. treatment. The IPL unplugs the oil glands that line the upper and lower lid margins. The light serves as a healing warm compress to liquefy any secretions that may be blocking the oil-secreting gland of the eye

(called the Meibomian glands). Once the glands are unplugged, the oily layer of the tear film is restored,  thus tears remain in the eye and bring soothing relief.  The IPL can also reduce inflammation caused by dry eyes.

• Oil Gland Therapy – This process often yields astonishing results in restoring the oil secretions of the Meibomian glands. A small instrument gently probes the oil glands lining the upper and lo wer lid

margins. The oily layer of the tear film is restored and tears remain in the eye as opposed to evaporating off, thus providing soothing relief.

• Tear Duct Therapy – The canals of the eye are sealed with cautery, a form of healing heat to prevent tears from draining. This is considered to be the best method for creating permanent closure of the canals.

The treatment allows the eye fluids to stay in the eye and provide soothing lubrication and relief.
